Yellowstone survives penalties, beats Southern Tier, 3-1


Despite having to fight off several power plays, Yellowstone was able to defeat Southern Tier, 3-1.


Yellowstone was sparked by Matt Runyon, who racked up one goal and one assist. Runyon scored on the power play 3:39 into the third period to make the score 2-0 Yellowstone. Yellowstone had gotten the advantage when Southern Tier's Joseph Gerace was sent off for slashing. Max Doner provided the assist.

Yellowstone forced Southern Tier goalie Ryan Forman to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots. Yellowstone was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 32 penalty minutes.

Yellowstone additionally got points from Doner, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Curtis Greenbush also scored for Yellowstone. In addition, Yellowstone received assists from Hunter Ruschmeyer, Tony Dahlberg, Reed Kelly, and Manuel Manero, who contributed one each.

Southern Tier had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just one goal on 10 chances. Southern Tier's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Southern Tier finished with 28 penalty minutes.

Southern Tier was led by Kyler Chartier, who scored the team's only goal. Chartier scored on the power play 15:56 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Yellowstone. Southern Tier had taken the advantage when Yellowstone's Cosimo Yapello got sent off for hooking. Luke Grossman assisted on the tally.

Lance Knudson made 17 saves for Yellowstone on 18 shots. Yellowstone registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. Forman recorded 36 saves for Southern Tier.
