Former Quake forward Jake Doty, 20, signed a 3-year contract with the St. Louis Blues last Wednesday. Doty played for the Yellowstone Quake from 2008-2010 before turning professional and playing for Seattle Thunderbirds of the Western Hockey League.
Doty was invited to the Traverse City Prospect Tournament and played well enough to earn a promotion to the NHL Main Camp of the Blues. Doty played his physical game, skating well and making plays. He had a breakout year last season with the Medicine Hat Tigers (WHL) after being traded from the Seattle Thunderbirds to Medicine Hat in the off-season. Doty, who hails from Billings, Montana, played in his first NHL Exhibition game in Orlando, Florida as the Blues lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-3 in a shootout. He has been assigned to the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League.
