The Helena Bighorns pulled out a 5-4 (OT) overtime victory over the Yellowstone Quake on a clutch goal by Austin Loes.
In a losing effort, Yellowstone was led by James Pyle, who racked up two goals. Pyle scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 14:34 into the first period to make the score 2-2. The Quake had gotten the advantage when Helena's Corbin Belling was sent off for interference. Jimmy Tich picked up the assist. Pyle's next tally on the power play made the score 4-3 Yellowstone with 6:25 left in the third period. Tich provided the assist.
In a losing effort, Yellowstone was paced by Pyle, who grabbed two goals.
The Bighorns' offense rang up 74 shots on the Quake's net. Helena's defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. The Bighorns give up 1.9 goal per game.
Helena also got points from Theo Campe, who also had one goal and one assist and Logan Henne, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Helena also had goals scored by Damon Hanson and Parker Olson, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Helena were Nick Okada, who had one and Sebastian Hansson, who had two.
Yellowstone put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Helena to score on any of its four power plays. The Quake's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.
Others who scored for Yellowstone included Avery Lison and Connor Scovel, who each put in one. In addition, Yellowstone received assists from Reed Kaiser, Ryan Garvey, Cosimo Yapello, and Sean Leahy, who contributed one a piece.
Alek Lazarski rejected 25 shots on goal for the Bighorns. Helena incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Sean Leahy made 69 saves for Yellowstone on 74 shots. The Quake incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
