AWHL Announces League All-Stars

HELENA, MT – The American West Hockey League selected its first and second all-star teams for the 2012-2013 regular season, announced AWHL Commissioner, Mike Butters, Tuesday.

The all-star team selections featured 17 players from all 7 of the full member teams and players from the United States (13), Canada (2) and Sweden (2). Players from each of the 8 clubs received votes.

“It was great to see the coaches of the league select the players who are deserving of merit,” said Butters. “Each of these fine young men represented their teams well.”

There were several ties in the voting, which showed a good parity amongst the league leaders. The AWHL honored those in a tie with other players a share of their all-star selection. There were 3 defensemen tied for voting on the 1st team, along with 2 forwards. The 2nd all-star team saw 3 defensemen in a tie. “We are a league destined on moving players to the next level,” said Butters. Instead of using a tiebreaker, the league office wanted to honor all of the players that were selected as all-stars. The higher levels of junior and college ranks should be exposed to as many of league’s best as possible.”
